We recently had the pleasure of working on a project with Akoni Eyewear for the prestigious Mallon + Taub store on Marylebone High Street in London. The challenge was to create a series of lightweight pedestals that could be easily transported yet sturdy enough to comply with the rigorous health and safety standards required in retail environments.

To meet these needs, we designed pedestals with weighted bases to pass the “topple test”, ensuring stability and safety in the bustling store. Despite their sturdy construction, the pedestals remained lightweight and portable, allowing for easy repositioning within the store or transportation to other locations as needed.

A key element of the design was achieving a luxurious, high-gloss finish that would complement the sophistication of Akoni Eyewear and the location in Mallon + Taub. To accomplish this, we applied an enhanced primer application before spray finishing which created a soft rolled edge to the pedestal displays. This detailed process resulted in a smooth, high-gloss finish that exudes elegance and perfectly aligns with the brand’s premium image.

Each pedestal was topped with a low-profile acrylic cover designed to encapsulate a single piece of eyewear from Akoni’s new range. This minimalist design approach allowed each unique eyewear design to be showcased as a standalone piece of art, highlighting its individual craftsmanship and style.

The end result was a set of sleek, stylish pedestals that not only met the practical requirements of the brief but also enhanced the overall aesthetic of the Mallon + Taub store. This project exemplifies our ability to blend functionality with luxury, creating displays that are as practical as they are visually striking.
